Hospital Nursing

Hospital nurses are usually assigned to any special area of work such as surgery, maternity, intensive care, pediatrics, obstetric and rehabilitative etc. After getting appropriate experience and additional qualification the nurses may be appointed as Nurse Manager/ Nursing Superintendent, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, Senior Nursing Officer, Nursing Officer etc.

Specialist Nursing

Post Graduate Nursing professionals may work as Nurse Clinician, Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist i.e. Mental Health Nurse, Child Health Nurse, Orthopedic Nurse, Neurology-Neurosurgery Nurse, Cardiac Nurse, Nurse Midwife, Oncology Nurse etc.

Community Health Nursing

Public health nurses / Health workers work in Government and private clinics and health departments in urban and rural areas to provide basic medical services to the local population. They instruct individuals, families and other groups in health education, disease prevention, nutrition and child care. They arrange for immunizations, blood pressure testing and other health screening. After getting appropriate experience and additional qualification the nurses may be appointed as District Public Health Nursing Officer, Senior Public Health Nursing Officer, Public Health Nursing Officer etc.

Military Nursing

Provide health care services in armed forces. After getting appropriate experience and additional qualification the nurses may be appointed as Nurse Lieutenant, Colonel Cadre etc.

Educators

This field combines nursing with the teaching of students of nursing and administration of educational programs. After getting appropriate experience and additional qualification the nurses may be appointed as Principal, Vice Principal, Professor, Associate Professor, Asst. Professor and Clinical Instructor/Nursing Tutor.

Industrial Nursing / Occupational Health Nursing

They work under the direction of the industrial physicians and assist in taking preventive safety measures. They provide emergency care at the time of accidents taking place inside the industrial premises.

Administrator

After getting appropriate experience and additional qualification the nurses may be appointed as Director, Addl. Director, Deputy Director, Joint Director, Registrar, Advisor, District Public Health Nursing Officer etc. in the State Government as well as Central Government.
